Ex Carcere San Vito FARM AGRIGENTO
Here, where everything seemed over, a new story began!
Building a new Community
The historic opening of Farm Cultural Park in the former San Vito Prison in Agrigento marks a new chapter in the city’s urban regeneration. Closed for over 30 years, the site has been transformed into a vibrant cultural hub for contemporary art, creativity, and social innovation. Granted in temporary use by the Agenzia del Demanio, the project aims to revive a symbolic space, enrich the local cultural landscape, and attract global creatives and visitors.

Rebel Forest - Wild Horizons
Rebel Forest emerges within the former San Vito Prison, reopened to the public after thirty years. in this place, suspended in time, a spontaneous grove of Ailanthus Altissima—the "Tree of Heaven"—has taken root among the ruins.
Native to northern China, the Ailanthus is one of the most resilient plants on earth. As Stefano Mancuso writes, it is “capable of breaking through asphalt, of sprouting from a wall, of growing among ruins. A plant that shows us what it truly means to adapt, without asking for anything in return.”
As told in Betty Smith’s classic novel A Tree grows in Brooklyn, even in the most hostile urban outskirts, nature does not give up: it enters, expands, heals.
Rebel Forest is an invitation to reconsider what grows on the margins and to rethink regeneration as an alliance with the living world.
We hope this rebel forest will inspire the new inhabitants of the former prison to imagine change as a real possibility, and coexistence with nature as a path toward rediscovering care, freedom, and belonging.
